DRAWING | 2010-2013

It is not fatal diseases that are the most feared ones, but those which transform the body into an item of revulsion. If something is described as sick, it means it is disgusting and ugly. In French a derelict facade is still described as lepreuse – leprous. Modern metaphors for illnesses, which society identifies with widely understood evil, do not help the suffering people. They constitute cheap tricks, although it is highly desirable for certain frightful diseases to be perceived as something normal. Even an illness provoking utter disgust should be solely an illness. The starting point for the drawings are archive footage of deformed body. The works are drawn with fingertips, giving a distinctive rhythm related to the anatomy.
